The Princess Angeline Society was organized in 1948. It is the second oldest continually existing C.A.R. Society in the State of Washington. It is relocating to Woodinville, northeast of Seattle.
The society is currently being sponsored by the Susan Woodin Chapter DAR, the newest DAR chapter in the State.
The name was chosen to honor the daughter of Chief Seattle for whom Seattle is named. Princess Angeline was born in 1811 and was named "Kick-is-om-lo" but area pioneers renamed her Angeline and later her life long friend and wife of Seattle's first Physician, Mrs. Maynard, affectionately added "Princess".
It is generally believed that she went alone, at the request of her father, across Puget Sound to warn the white settlers that unfriendly Indians were planning to attack the settlement and massacre the inhabitants.
